TFD/antibiotic combinations
Procarta's first product development is a TFD to be used in combination with vancomycin to combat resistance to this antibiotic and others of the glycopeptide class.
Vancomycin is referred to as the antibiotic of 'last resort' because of its use in the hospital setting, in particular in intensive care units, to combat serious infections such as MRSA. The spread of this superbug has caused this antibiotic to be relied on even more heavily which is why the spread of resistance to vancomycin is even more alarming (VRSA and VRE).
Using vancomycin in combination with TFDs will not only be effective against the new forms of resistance but will also prevent their spread.
